February ’11

Ah! February came and went and I added NOTHING to the page! My sincerest apologies.

The list for February was as follows:

  • Barton Hollow – The Civil Wars ; I find some of my most favorite songs on the iTunes single of the week selections. Very folky, very back woods-y. And forgive my dorkiness, but in the song whenever they sing the words “Barton Hollow”, I substitute Godric’s for Barton
  • All of the Lights – Kanye West feat. tons of people ; Really cool beat and chorus. I really only like this song for superficial reasons. But still cool!
  • Born This Way – Lady Gaga ; Though I do not herald this as the anthem of our generation or any spectacle of song writing, I do think it is a good pop song. The video is insane–in a bad way–but still very interesting.
  • Thriller/Heads Will Roll ; I saw this on Glee and thought to myself immediately…I NEED IT!! Probably my favorite mash up I’ve ever heard. Kudos Glee writers…many much kudos.
  • Someone Like You – Adele ; Such a hauntingly beautiful and heartbreaking song. I think Adele is the artist of the century. The way she knocks every song out of the park vocally, and yet having such emotional power is stunning. This song overwhelms me.
  • Price Tag – Jessie J feat. B.o.B. ; Another foray into Brit-pop. I think she is my favorite UK import this past year. And the message of the song, while simple, is a really nice one. B.o.B. is just a charming and welcome addition on the track.
  • Super Bass – Nicki Minaj ; Just a good track of Pink Friday that I really enjoy. This was actually the first song I added to the list, and for a while it was just this song on loop, and I don’t think that was such a bad idea.
  • The Creep – The Lonely Island feat. Nicki Minaj ; The video of this on SNL was more than hilarious. I was surprised to see that the song can stand alone as really enjoyable. Kudos SNL writers…kudos…

So the list ended up being short and sweet, much like the month itself. March will be full of great hits! Check back soon!
