June ’11

Hey! I hope I don’t make a habit of always updating this at the end of the month, but at least I’ll have it ready before th month is over! Baby steps, people.

On with the list!

  • Burning Up – Britney Spears ; So while I was hoping to include the remixed single version of I Wanna Go, it has yet to be released, so for now I have her fun (remixed) cover of Madonna’s original version. It’s cute and fun, but nothing ballpark blowout awesome.
  • Never Heal Myself – Cults ; This song is cute and breezy and the sound is similar to Tennis, but Cults is more layered and heavier. Not darker, just there is more to it. and I think a little louder. But real summer-y and great!
  • Hair – Lady Gaga ; I’m actually a little miffed as I write this. Last night at the MMVA Gaga beat out Britney in a fan-based award, after Britney had over 15,000 MORE votes than Gaga. But whatever. This song is here because the chorus is just so damn good. The verses are just ‘meh’, but the chorus is killer.
  • Bad Romance – Remitocoko ; Beautiful. French. Talented. What more could you ask for? This cover has garnered millions of views on Youtube, but I encourage everyone to look up all his other stuff as well!
  • Hold On – Wilson Phillips ; You read the post. I had to include it here.
  • Pumped Up Kicks – Foster the People ; I loved them last month and I had to have more of them this month. This is their actual single released to radio and it is doing fairly well for an indie band.
  • 1+1 – Beyonce ; I’m not really in love with her new album,  but this love song is sooooooo deeep and heartfelt and romantic and everything a lonely gay boy could ask for.
  • Lost Woods Remix – Ephixia ; I’ve been on a major dubsteb/dance/house music binge lately. So mixing all that with my nerdiness just creates awesome. This is major sick and a real banger.
  • Unfriend You – Greyson Chance ; Bieber but better. That is Greyson chance in three words. I think his management led him more towards the preteen girl demographic after his last song, which I really loved too. But don’t worry, this doesn’t get sucked into vapidity similar to Cody Simpson. This, despite some of its puerile phrasing, is actually still very good.
  • Pursuit of Happiness – Kid Cudi ; again, you all read the post. Included.
  • Hedwig’s Theme [Remix] – Virtual Boy ; Like I wrote above for the Zelda song, this mixes both my immense and slightly religious love for Harry Potter with awesome club dance music.
  • Call Your Girlfriend – Robyn ; When I was unemployed, I rocked out to the whole album this was on, Body Talk, and my life was minutely better. And this is a good song off of it, while being uncomplicated and repetitive.
  • Pursuit of Happiness – Lissie ; I love the original for reasons I have written previously. But this cover takes it to a whole new level. I suggest watching the video of her doing it live on Youtube. It is a game changer for sure.
  • One – Mikah Young ; This might be biased because it is by my friend. But once you hear how good it is, you’ll know it isn’t biased at all. The song is awesome. In the future, I hope to include audio files of all the songs I feature here, but I can’t figure out how to make it work. But in my full post on her, I’ll be sure to include it!

So that’s all I’ve got so far. I don’t know that I’ll have any more by the end, but be sure to check back soon!
