November ’10

I know this is a little late, but I can be lazy if I want to. There are fewer choices this month because October was a little lengthy.

  • Roman’s Revenge – Nicki Minaj feat. Eminem ; This song is intense. I listen to it when I’m mad or running. Or while doing both. My only reservation is that Em uses some offensive language at the start to his second verse. I choose to overlook it.
  • S & M – Rihanna ; I really have no current taste for her latest single ‘What’s  My Name?’, and I think this is much better and would do better. O wait… maybe not. The subject matter would be terrible for a Kidz Bop album.
  • Indestructible – Robyn ; I listened to this a lot at the beginning of the month. The lyrics are really powerful to me, and evoke equally powerful emotions. Do not take this song lightly.
  • Wonderland – Natalia Kills ; Admittedly, this song would not be on the Varsity team if this were a competition of High School sports, but it is a string opener on the B string. Simple words and melodies are the make up of this song.
  • Parachute – Cheryl Cole ; The first time I heard this song, it was done by Ingrid Michaelson. I think she does well with the song, but I like the strings in this version better and the mid-tempo feel to it.
  • Club Called Heaven – the Black Cards ; ILOVETHISSONG. This is by Pete Wentz’s new band, and I love the whole feel to it. It sounds nothing like Fall Out Boy, which is surprising by not at all bad. It is just pure fun.
  • Pretty Girl Rock – Keri Hilson ; I think Keri is underrated as an artist. This song isn’t like a lot of what she has done before, and the tempo is perfect if you are running at 8 mph on a treadmill.
  • Firework – Katy Perry ; I’ve known about this song since the album dropped, and thought that this song was pretty good, but nothing special. That all changed when I saw the music video. Now I see it as an epic ballad. If ever I do a cover album, this’ll be on it.
  • Mine – Taylor Swift ; Let me preface this – just because the girl can barely sing doesn’t mean she can’t write killer songs. She captures and embodies the spirit of love here. I’d never pay to hear her sing it, but listening to it on my iPod is really a nice feeling.
  • Strip Me – Natasha Bedingfield ; I’m not really sure what this song means. That’s the trouble with pop lyrics sometimes: they are really indefinite. I think it has to do with empowering the self, which I’m all about.
  • Fucking Perfect – P!nk ; This song is really special to me. Only P!nk could fuse the soul and meaning of this song with the raw and somewhat abrasive lyrics. It is really sweet and reassuring for those in despair, which is great.
  • Raining Men – Rihanna feat. Nicki Minaj ; The beat of this song is on fire. It is really fun and even draws on the classic by the Weather Girls. I’m a sucker for a throwback.

That’s it for now. I don’t anticipate many more, but check back just in case!
